Movement Joints

One of the things I am seeing so many people, from homeowners to home builders, is not planning ahead for movement. Your substrate will move, whether it is concrete or wood. And when it does, did you allow for this? Or did you tile tight around the perimeter of the room. Baseboards must be removed and then replaced after the installation. Or quarter round molding must be installed after the tile. This way you can leave a good 1/8" movement joint around the perimeter of the room (and not fill that gap with grout).

So, to the consumer who wants to save some money and tile tight to the baseboards, or not place control joints on large floors, please do some research and realize the disaster this can cause.
